Like the first book, Earth Aspect, this one blends elements of Ready Player One and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy with Atari-era gaming nostalgia, while also delivering some surprisingly heartfelt moments that set it apart from typical genre fiction.
The Legacy Shard delivers the same sharp humor, clever writing, and engaging action that made Earth Aspect enjoyable. The familiar cast returns with new adventures, offering insightful—and sometimes uncomfortably accurate—observations about relationships and life's bigger questions. The sequel moves at a brisker pace than the first book and feels more refined overall. The wordplay is still there, but it fits more naturally into the story this time around.
I became quite attached to one minor character, though their limited screen time left me wanting more. With so many storylines running simultaneously, it's understandable that secondary characters can't always get the attention they deserve.
Overall, this is an entertaining read with vivid prose and strong pacing that keeps you engaged throughout. The book strikes a nice balance between fun escapism and meaningful character development, making it a solid continuation of the series.
