Release Date: June 1 2025

When I first noticed the length, ~600 pages, I was a bit daunted. However, I quickly flew through the pages, anxious to get to each subsequent chapter. The character development is fairly well done, though I would have liked to have some more depth on a couple of the characters, Jacob, particularly. I think it would have added an additional emotional element, especially later in the book.

The speech and general feel of the novel reminded me of children. The characters vacillate between adult conversations and immature squabbles, which only leads to the charm and, to be honest, horror of imagining how I would have behaved under the circumstances.

The character Sky immediately drew empathy from me, and I liked him from the start. A young man himself, forced into an unforgiving role; that he handled marvelously.

Tori was quite an interesting character study. Extremely likeable one moment, frustratingly annoying the next. But, then again, that was part of her charm. In the end, she was the heart and soul of the whole endeavor.

I don’t want to give spoilers, so I won’t, but suffice it to say Nate and Safiya were handled extremely well.

Finally, I truly enjoyed Hafsa and her commitment to her faith; for me, a wonderful inclusion. I hope it’s a trend.

Also, the Guy Fawkes reference may go over some heads in the US, but I’m sure it won’t in the UK.

Overall, I think it’s one that appeals to YA and Adult both, and contains elements we could all learn from. I know I have.

Thank you Elizabeth.
